Stickleback Bait Review
By Terry Wiest

It’s not often a new “bait” comes along, but I’ve recently fished a new one from Stickleback Bait Company that actually has me excited and is another option I’ll have when it comes to bait.
Sure, there are always new scents, new cures, new lures – but this is actually a new bait! They look like octopus or squid, heck I don’t know, but the fish sure do!
Stickleback’s claim is they take what is the top steelhead food in the ocean, and then infuse it with the most seductive scents prior to packaging it up for sale. I’m not sure what all’s in them, but definitely anise, which is great since it’s my favorite scent for both steelhead and salmon as well.
I haven’t fished them for steelhead yet, but I’ve already put in my order for the upcoming season. I was however able to use them for Chinook on the Humptulips river. We were successful backbouncing them both with and without eggs.
What I really liked about them, besides catching fish, was that even after catching and releasing a few fish the bait was still in tack and producing long after the eggs had fallen off.
For salmon I do like them in a combo cocktail with eggs so there’s a nice milky scent trail. Without eggs also produced fish for us but it never hurts to have that added attraction.
Like I said, I haven’t tried them for steelhead yet, but I can already see them on the end of a marabou jig or just alone on a jig head. They should have the same effect as a pink work except better… it’s bait!
This is just a short review, but I’ll touch up again on the success we have on steelhead with Stickleback Bait!
I’m sure to get many curious fisherman asking “What the heck is that” – but just can’t wait to hear them say, “Can I use some of those?”
